Nanaimo Oktoberfest

Greetings from the Rotary Club of Nanaimo Daybreak.

Known as Rotary Nanaimo Daybreak, our club was chartered in December of 1995. We remaincommitted to active participation and the input from all of our members. Daybreak Rotarians share a deep commitment to youth: both in our community and internationally.
Locally, we focus our fundraising efforts with Nanaimo Youth Services, Boys and Girls Club of Central Vancouver Island and Nanaimo Child Development Centre with proceeds from our annual golf tournament to help fund for these youth organizations. Our Texas Hold’em Poker events fund the Mid-Island Abilities and Telephone Visiting Society and their "Kids on the Block" youth education programme, an interactive stage performance which relates differing personal abilities.  We also support the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital ‘Prevent Alcohol and Related Trauma to Youth.' (P.A.R.T.Y.) programme both financially and in leadership. P.A.R.T.Y. provides Central Vancouver Island grade 10 students a tour of our hospital to gain first-hand experience and participation with the consequences of their decisions.

We also actively support Literacy Central Vancouver Island by building, locating and maintaining five book donation drop boxes.  Internationally, we are involved with projects in a public school in Sunyani, Ghana in Africa. This work is done in conjunction with Vancouver Island University and Regional District of Nanaimo. Our members are also involved with a Women's Shelter and local projects assisting families with water, toilets and beds in the Lake Atitlan area of Guatemala. Our international goals are to develop sustainable projects that are wanted and needed by the local population. Beyond philanthropy, Rotary Nanaimo Daybreak is a unique and valuable asset to the Nanaimo community. Networking is certainly a part of Rotary. Weekly, we bring distinguished local, provincial and national speakers who educate and enlighten our members. We also engage in the fellowship of Rotary at our meetings and in hands-on events by our club and with other Rotary Clubs in Nanaimo.

The Rotary Club of Nanaimo Daybreak meets every Wednesday, at 7:00 AM, at Origin at Longwood, 6205 Oliver Road, Nanaimo.  We enjoy breakfast, fellowship, and most weeks, an informative and interesting guest speaker.  Many members arrive after 6:30 AM for coffee & chats before our meeting.  Our meeting usually ends before 8:15 AM.  We welcome guests!
